Assam govt to ban bandhs protesting recent violence

Assam government has decided to ban all kinds of bandh and other protest demonstrations in the state in the wake of recent violence. Official sources in Guwahati said that the ban will be enforced for a month initially from Saturday.

Meanwhile, day curfew has been relaxed in Chirang, Tezpur in Sonitpur and Aam bagan in Nagaon district from two to ten hours. However, indefinite curfew continues at Barpeta road and Howly in Barpeta district.

A group of Ministers today held discussion with Bodoland Territorial Council Chief Hagrama Mahilary in Kokrajhar on relief and rehabilitation measures. An all party delegation also visited Kokrajhar and Kaajalgaon in Chirang district and took stock of the situation. So far, 96 people have lost their live in ethnic violence while 391 miscreants were arrested.
