Assam Govt. sounds red alert following ULFA leader arrest

A red alert has been sounded across Assam to check any backlash following the arrest of ULFA chairman, Arabinda Rajkhowa and his deputy Raju Baruah. AIR Silchar Correspondent says ULFA had resorted such action last month with twin blasts in Nalbari town after the arrest of its two leaders – self-styled foreign secretary, Chitraban Hazarika and finance secretary, Sasha Choudhury. Nine were killed and over 50 people injured in the blasts. To prevent any such incidents a all police stations in Assam have been alerted to maintain vigil and to step up security measures. The centre has also directed the Assam government to beef up security measures in the state.<br/><br/>The Assam Chief Minister, Mr. Tarun Gogoi has already favoured talks with the banned outfit ULFA for a peaceful solution to the long standing insurgency issue in the state. Mr.Gogoi has called upon other extremist groups of the state to come forward for negotiation for peaceful settlement of their issues mutually".<br/>
