The Assam Government has released a white paper on migrants. Releasing it in Guwahati the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said undocumented migration of people of Assam from across the border was not as alarming as in the past. He said the problems of unemployment, providing health care and education are more serious for the state and the Government is devoting attention to these.The 'White Paper' brought out by the State Home and Political Department says , it is difficult to give a precise estimate of illegal migrants in Assam. Mr. Gogoi said that various tribunals from 1985 to July, 2012 have put the figure at 61,774 persons as foreigners which includes those who crossed the Assam-Bangladesh border and entered Assam between 1966 and 1971 and post 1971 migrants.
