Assam government is mulling option to set up Xatra Protection Force involving local people to protect xatras (monasteries)from anti-social elements . Speaking at a cheque distribution function in Guwahati yesterday Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that government has stressed on the preservation of xatras. The Chief Minister also emphasized to create a public fund for the conservation of xatras. Gogoi also handed over cheque of 11 lakh rupees each to 87 xatras as additional central assistance.
