Assam Government has made all arrangements to bring the body of the legendary singer, Dada Saheb Phalke Awardee Dr Bhupen Hazarika to Guwahati tomorrow. Dr. Hazarika, 86, died at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Memorial Hospital in Mumbai yesterday following multi-organ failure. The State Cultural Affairs Minister Pranati Phukan and Secretary Santanu Thakur have left for Mumbai to arrange taking the body of Dr. Hazarika to his native place at Guwahati. According to an official statement in Guwahati, the body of the deceased music maestro will be brought to his Nazarapar residence at Guwahati from Mumbai tomorrow. Later, his body will be kept at Judges Field in the city to enable the people to pay their last respect to him till Tuesday morning. The cremation will take place on the same day with full State Honour. The State Government had offered status of a Cabinet Minister to Dr. Hazarika and announced to bear all expenses of his treatment. Meanwhile, Assam Government has declared a three-day state mourning from today and a half day holiday on Tuesday as a mark of respect to Dr. Hazarika . The UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi telephoned the State Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi last night and expressed her grief and deep sorrow at the demise of the legendary singer. She termed Dr. Hazarika as a multifaceted genius and a great mass singer.
