The Assam government has decided to recommend CBI inquiry into the recent incident of violence along the Assam- Nagaland border. In a press release issued in Guwahati last night, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, said that the State government would hand over the case to the CBI to find out the truth. Mr. Gogoi said after meeting representative of 7 organisations that the first priority of his Government is to restore peace in the affected areas and send back the displaced people to their homes. The Chief Minister assured the delegation that security measures would be in place, including permanent police pickets, in the affected areas to instill confidence among the people at border areas. He also assured the delegation that Government would provide job cards under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act to the affected people.
The Chief Minister said that the Government is mulling the setting up of Border Protection Force and Border Development Council. Gogoi also told the delegation Situation has been improved in Golaghat district and the day curfew has been lifted
