Assam Government has announced a special scheme of 10 crore rupees for the development of inland water service and road communication in Dhubri district which witnessed one of the worst ferry mishaps in the State last week.According to an official press release at Guwahati, the scheme is a part of the Chief Minister’s special programme. It said the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has also submitted a memorandum to Union Shipping Minister GK Vasan who visited the Medertari in Dhubri district on Saturday last to meet the families of the ferry mishap victims. The Chief Minister has urged the Union Minister to approve a scheme of 365 crore rupees for development of 12 river docks and purchase of 200 modernized ferryboats for better transportation facilities in Brahmaputra river-side areas.Meanwhile, search for more missing persons in last Monday’s ferry boat tragedy is on for the ninth day today. 63 bodies have so far been fished out from the Brahmaputra River while many are still reported to be missing.
