The Assam Government has announced statewide lockdown from 6 p.m. tomorrow till 31st of this month to prevent outbreak of Covid-19. Announcing this in Guwahati, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that essential services will be continued during this period. He said that imprisonment upto two years will be given who violates the order.<br />''  <br />''Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal instructed the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to enforce the lock down in their respective jurisdiction and put a close monitoring system in place to make all the essential commodities available to the public. He also asked them to keep a watch on the traders to avoid hording of essential items.<br />
