Assam Govt. announces calamity relief

The Assam Government has announced calamity relief of one lakh rupees each to the next kin of those killed in the devastating storm that lashed the State on Saturday night. According to official reports received from different districts, as many as 20 people lost their lives, over fifty injured and thousands rendered homeless in the calamity. <br/><br/>The State Chief Minister Mr. Tarun Gogoi after reviewing the situation directed all the Deputy Commissioners of the districts to immediately pay the ex-gratia amount from the calamity relief fund. He also instructed them to launch relief operations immediately in the storm-hit areas. <br/><br/>A control room has been set up in the State secretariat at Dispur to monitor the situation round-the-clock. Official sources said Dhubri was one of the most affected districts where six persons died and more than eighty thousand people in 342 villages rendered homeless in the high-velocity storm. Reports of severe damages were also pouring in from different parts of Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi, Kamrup, Nalbari, Goalpara, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Darang and Lakhimpur districts. <br/>
