Assam Governor accepts resignation of CM Tarun Gogoi, his Cabinet

Assam Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik has accepted the resignation of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his Cabinet. While accepting the resignation, the Governor requested Mr. Gogoi to continue as the interim Chief Minister of the State until new government assumes office. Assam Cabinet, which met in Dispur last evening, adopted a resolution for dissolution of the 12th Assembly in the State. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is expected to meet the Governor at 11 AM today. Newly-elected Congress Legislators will meet in Guwahati tomorrow to elect the CLP leader. The CLP meeting will be attended by Senior Congress leaders – Pranab Mukherjee and Digvijay Singh. Quoting party sources, Our Correspondent reports that Tarun Gogoi is likely to be elected CLP leader which will enable him to continue as the Chief Minister of the State for the third consecutive term. Official sources said, new Congress government in the state is likely to take oath on Wednesday. The Congress party got absolute majority by winning 78 of the total 126 seats in the State Assembly. The Congress ally Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) which won 12 seats has also announced it’s unconditionally support to the Congress. Hectic political activities are on in the State capital to finalize the probable list of 18 Cabinet members to be included in the new Ministry.
