Assam gearing up for by-election to RS seat on Dec 22

In Assam, hectic political activities are on in the ruling Congress party for bye-election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat in the State slated for 22nd of this month.

According to Assam Pradesh Congress Committee sources, names of 48 aspirants for the vacant seat have been referred to the AICC high Command for final selection.

The seat remained vacant following recent death of Rajya Sabha Member from the State, Silvius Condpan. The last day of filing nomination for the seat has been fixed on 12th December.

The ruling Congress has 78 legislators of its own in the 126-member Assam Assembly. In addition, the party has got support of 11 Legislators of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) ally. Four independents legislators are also supporting the ruling Congress government in the State.
