Assam gas cracker project likely to be completed by July, 2013

In Assam, the gas cracker project being implemented by the Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymers Limited, at Lepetkata in Dibrugarh district, is likely to be completed by the month of July, 2013. AIR correspondent reports once completed it will generate employment in engineering, construction and service sectors. The potentials of gas cracker project at Lepatkata, after commissioning, will create avenues for generating employment, direct and in-direct, to a minimum of one lakh people in small, down stream and other services related enterprises. This also provides an opportunity for the development of down -stream plastic industries in the state. Assam Government has already initiated an ambitious plastic park project near the gas cracker project at Tinsukia district in an area of 500 acres to facilitate the growth of plastic industries. Several steps have also been taken to create awareness on the opportunities in the plastic industries among youths. Special technical courses have been introduced in Universities, colleges and other institues to develop specialized manpower. At present, around 7000 persons are being engaged per day on contract basis at the construction site.
