Assam floods:situation improves in Dhemaji and Tinsukia districts

In Assam, the flood situation in Dhemaji district and Sadia Sub-Division of Tinsukia district has slightly improved today. But situation remains grim in other parts .The water level of the Brahmaputra receded at Dibrugarh and Neamatighat, but maintains a rising trend in Guwahati, Goalpara and Dhubri.Official sources said that over 16 lakh population of two thousand 55 villages in 15 districts have been displaced. In Majuli, electricity services have been disrupted. People have taken shelter at embankments and safer places. Rescue and relief operations are on in the affected areas. Air Force will continue air dropping of food stuffs in Upper Assam. Two state ministers and Chief Secretary will take an aerial survey of flood affected Tinsukia district. In Guwahati, parts of Pandu, Gaarigaon, Sunsali areas are reeling under flood. District administration has shifted some families to safer places. The surging water also submerged some parts of Kamrup, Marigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari and Goalpara district. Road communication affected and thousand of agricultural land submerged in flood water. Meanwhile, army, health and veterinary department have deployed medical teams in the affected districts. Our correspondent reports that
over three lakh livestock were also affected in the current wave of flood. State veterinary Secretary Mukti Gogoi said that 42 camps were held yesterday in five districts. Almost 15 thousand domestic animals went missing. The eterinary department is also distributing fodder and medicines .Air Force has been pressed into service to air drop fodder at Majuli and Sadia. On the other hand, health department also deputed medical teams. Special health camps are being held in flood- hit areas.
