Assam flood toll rises to 96; Relief & rescue ops on

In Assam, relief and rescue operations are on in the flood affected areas. The National Disaster Response Force, NDRF, the State Disaster Response Force and the Army has been carrying out rescue and relief works in 9 districts. 16 NDRF and 18 SDRF teams are being deployed. 70 army personnel have also been engaged in seven flood affected districts.
Meanwhile, death toll in flood and landslides mounted to 95. Official sources said that 79 people have died in flood while 16 people lost their lives in landslides. The opposition BJP has urged the government to call an all party meeting to assess the current situation and to find ways for a permanent solution of the problem. Asom Gana Parishad also urged the Centre to declare Assam’s flood as a national problem.
