Assam: Flood situation in 3 districts deteriorates further

In Assam, the flood situation in three districts of Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and Sonitpur further deteriorated today with inundating of many new areas. Eight rivers are flowing above the danger mark following incessant rains in the neighbouring hills of Arunachal Pradesh. Lakhimpur district was worst affected as 70 villages were submerged by the waters of swelling rivers. The vital bridge was washed away by the high current waters of Ranganadhi river on the National Highway Number 52. Hundreds of families rendered homeless. Road communication was disrupted. The district authorities started rescue and relief operations.
