Assam flood situation improves

The overall flood situation in Assam has slightly improved today. Central Water Commission reports say the Brahmaputra and its tributaries are maintaining a falling trend. Over 20 lakh population in 18 districts has been affected. Ten persons are still missing while 19 persons have lost their lives due to flood. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is visiting flood affected areas in Upper Assam to take stock of the situation. Speaking to AIR, state Home Secretary G D Tripathi said that a Central team will visit the affected areas to assess damaged caused by floods. Mr Tripathi said the state has sufficient food stocks. Our correspondent reports that 49 Sub-centres, 10 Primary Health Centers and six Community Health Centers are reeling under water. Health department has deputed around 100 doctors and 211 Para-medical staffs in the affected places. 175 camps were organized and 18 thousand patients have been treated. Ambulance and Mobile Medical Units are also providing services in 18 districts. Around eight thousand packets of baby foods are distributed. So far no major outbreak of any dieses has been reported. Healogen tablets to purify drinking waters have also been distributed.
