Assam flood: Situation deteriorated, more areas under water

The flood situation in Karimganj district of Barak Valley of Assam has further deteriorated following inundation of new areas including Karimganj town. <br/><br/>In view of the critical flood situation, the district administration has ordered the closure of all the educational institutions of the district from tomorrow until further orders. Altogether 310 relief camps have been set up in the district where over 50 thousand flood affected people are taking shelter. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, a thirty-member team of the National Disaster Response Force with engine boats has been pressed into service to assist the district administration in relief and rescue works in the flood affected areas of the district.<br/><br/>In this hour of distress the members of many political and other voluntary organisations have extended their helping hands in the district administration’s efforts in providing relief materials to the flood marooned people.<br/><br/>The Deputy Commissioner In charge of Karimganj, A. Nanda Babu Singh has told that there is sufficient stock of food grains and other essential items with the district administration and people need not to be panicked.
