Assam electoral roll shows above 2% increase

In Assam, the final electoral roll published for all the 27 districts of the state shows a 2.21 per cent increase in the number of voters in comparison to the draft electoral roll published in October last year. According to the final electoral roll, the total number of voters in Assam is 1, 85, 62,145 (One crore eighty five lakh sixty two thousand one hundred and forty five). Out of this, 95, 93,899 are males and 89, 68,246 are females.The final electoral roll, based on first January, 2012, as the qualifying date, was published on Thursday last after special revision as per the directive of the Election Commission.Barpeta district of the state has registered a growth of 4.97 per cent increase in voters, which is stated to be highest in the State. Majuli, the world’s largest river island in Jorhat district, has recorded 2.15 per cent decrease in number of voters, which is the lowest in the state.
