Assam CM requests Mamata for inclusion of slew of projects in 2011-12 Railway Budget

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has requested Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee for inclusion of a slew of projects in the 2011-12 Railway Budget. In a letter to Ms. Banerjee ,Gogoi requested her for inclusion of new lines for strengthening the railway infrastructure in Assam and North-Eastern regions as a whole.These include a new railway line from Salona to Kumtai and Jorhat to Sivasagar for creating a transport corridor along the south bank of the Brahmaputra, building of the 6 km Tirap-Lekhapani railway line for efficient and economical access to the Lekhapani coal mines to feed the upcoming 750 MW Bongaigaon Thermal Power Station (BTPS) of NTPC at Salakati in Kokrajhar district among others.Gogoi requested Banerjee to declare these infrastructure as ‘national projects for ensuring smooth fund flow.Gogoi also requested Banerjee to introduce a new daily express train (Duronto) to Kolkata; very fast daily express trains with limited stops from Dibrugarh-Guwahati to Mumbai-Pune in the West; Vellore-Chennai; Bangalore; Trivandrum-Kochi in the South and Amritsar-Jammu in the North.
