Assam CM meets Chairman of 13th Finance Commission

The Assam Chief Minister, Mr. Tarun Gogoi today met the Chairman of 13th Finance Commission of India Dr. Vijay Kelkar at the latter’s office chamber in New Delhi and discussed various financial issues relating to the State. The issues which figured in the discussions are border areas development, development of backward areas, Agriculture and its allied sectors, science and technology, rural health, education, flood and erosion, financial assistance to the autonomous councils and implementation of 6th pay revision for state government employees. The Chairman of the Commission Dr. Vijay Kelkar has appreciated Chief Minister Gogoi and his team for excellent fiscal management. He said as the State was able to attain fiscal discipline and management, it may not require much financial support from the Centre. The Assam Chief Minister, Mr. Gogoi while apprising Dr. Kelkar about the slew of initiatives taken to maintain fiscal discipline and management has urged him to extend more fiscal support from the Centre to wipe off the accumulated infrastructural and developmental backlog of the past few decades. The Chief Minister was assisted by the Principal Secretary, Finance, HS Das, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, TY Das, Resident Commissioner, Sri Debandra Kumar. The Secretary of the Finance Commission, Sunit Bose was also present in the discussions.<br/>
