Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has asked the small tea growers of the State not to compromise with quality to get a better price for their produce. He emphasized on application of bio fertilizer and the need for adopting latest technology in tea sector for better yield. Inaugurating the convention of small tea growers organized by the Tea Board of India at Tezpur University in Sonitpur district today, Gogoi assured to constitute a committee to look into the problems of small tea growers.Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Paban Singh Ghatowar urged the Tea Board to set up a welfare fund and ensure payment of minimum wages for the labourers working in the small tea gardens.Earlier, in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Tea Board of India, Mr. M.G.V.K. Bhanu said 25 per cent of the total one thousand million kilogramme tea produced annually in the country is contributed by small tea growers. Bhanu announced providing of Biometric Smart Card to about eighty thousand small tea growers of Assam to derive the benefits from the Government.’
