Assam CM asks security agencies to intensify operation against Bodo militants

The Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has directed the security agencies to intensify operation against the anti-talk faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB). The direction came after reviewing the law and order situation of the State with the Chief Secretary N.K.Das, Director General of Police Sankar Baruah and other senior officials. The review was held in view of the mayhem caused by the banned NDFB rebels, killing at least 23 innocent people in last two days in several lower Assam districts. The strategy group of the Unified Command also met in Guwahati last evening to finalize strategies for launching an offensive against the militants, particularly, in the jungle areas along Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan boundaries. Those areas are considered to be most vulnerable to movement of the militants belonging to the anti-talk group of the NDFB. Meanwhile, a 12-hour bandh has been observed in the State from this morning to protest against the serial killing of non-tribal people by the outlawed underground group. The bandh has been called by the Bhojpuri Yuva Parishad and All Assam Hindu Yuva Parishad. It is supported by the Opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP). The bandh evokes mixed response in several parts of lower Assam, including the Bodoland Territorial Council districts. However, there has been no impact of the band in the Guwahati city. The State Government has announced ex-gratia of five lakh rupees to the families of those killed and fifty thousand rupees to those injured in the latest attack by the militant group.
