In Assam, campaigning for the first phase of polls has come to an end today. Polling will take place on Monday from 7am to 5pm in Jorhat, Kaliabor, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur and Tezpur seats. A total of 51 candidates are in fray. Over 64 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in this phase at 8 thousand 588 polling booths. Meanwhile, proper security arrangement has been made to conduct peaceful polling. Additional DGP (Law and Order) A P Rout said that 14 polling parties have already been sent to Majuli Island. Mr. Rout said that 235 security companies along with 10 thousand home guard and un-armed police are being deployed in this place. He also said that two helicopters will be stationed at Lilabari and Dibrugarh. One Additional DGP rank officer has already been deployed to supervise the overall law and order situation. Mr. Rout further said security at border areas have been beefed up. Sources in state Election department said that 743 micro observers will be deployed at vulnerable polling booths and live web casting will be done at 200 booths. Also, CCTV cameras are being installed and videography will be done on the polling day at critical stations.
