Assam cabinet decides to initiate peace talks with the banned ULFA outfit

The Assam Cabinet has taken a decision to initiate peace talks with the banned ULFA outfit. <br/><br/>Disclosing this at a press conference at Guwahati today, the State Chief Minister Mr Tarun Gogoi informed that the Cabinet has decided to hold talks even without the presence of the banned outfit’s elusive commander- in- chief Paresh Baruah.<br/><br/>The development came after the go ahead signal to the State Government by the Union Home Minister Mr P Chidambaram. <br/><br/>Mr Chidambaram reviewed the internal security of the State at a Unified Command meeting held in Guwahati yesterday. He also had separate discussions with the Governor Mr. Janaki Ballav Pattanaik and the Chief Minister Mr Tarun Gogoi on the security scenario of the State.
