Assam budget session from February 1

The week-long Budget Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly begins from first of February. According to the Principal Secretary of the Assembly, the Session which will continue till 8th of February, will have altogether six working days. The Session will begin with the customary address by the State Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik. The Chief Minister Mr. Tarun Gogoi, who is holding the Finance portfolio, will present the Vote-on-Account in the Assembly on 7th February for the first three months of the next financial year 2011-2012. As many as 13 Bills, including three new, are to be tabled in the House for passing. AIR Guwahati Correspondent reports that this will be the last sitting of the present 14th Assembly in the State as the next Assam poll is due in April-May this year. Meanwhile, the opposition parties, led by Asom Gana Parishad and BJP are gearing up their strategies to grill the Congress-led State Government in the Assembly on the issue of alleged misuse of funds meant for development in the North Cachar hill district. The latest CAG report has also pointed out mis-handling of funds in several Government Departments of the district.
