Assam boat tragedy: Rescue ops on, Rahul gandhi to arrive to take stock of situation

In Assam, rescue operation to recover more bodies from the river Brahmaputra around Bura Buri Char in Dhubri district, has resumed this morning. According to official reports, as many as 240 people are still missing after the ferry-boat capsized in the midst of the river due to a strong cyclonic storm on Monday. 50 bodies have so far been recovered. Reports reaching Guwahati said, no dead body has been recovered since yesterday although the divers of the National Disaster Response Force, Army, BSF and Police have continued joint efforts. Helicopters have also been pressed into the service for assistance in rescue operation. The local administration of neighbouring Bangladesh has also been alerted following reports of floating of some bodies downstream the river Brahmaputra.
Meanwhile, the All India Congress Committee General Secretary and MP, Rahul Gandhi and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi are arriving at the incident spot in Dhubri district this afternoon to take stock of the situation.
