In Assam, a 10-hour North Cachar Hill District Bandh called by the BJP passed off peacefully at three this evening. The Bandh had evoked a total response. All educational institutions, offices, banks, shops and business establishments remained close during the bandh period. Vehicular traffic was also off the road. Long distance and inter-district buses were not plying. However, train services in between Haflong and Badarpur in hill section has not been affected by the Bandh.The call for the Bandh was given by BJP from five this morning seeking early peace talks with both factions of Dima Halam Daoga (DHD) extremists to restore peace and normalcy in the trouble strife district and revival of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council which is under suspended animation. The party also demanded early resumption of work on the ongoing two national projects-Lumding-Silchar broad gauge rail line conversions and East-West corridor project besides payment of salaries to North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council employees who are not getting their salaries for the last five months.
