Assam Assembly session begins on stormy note

The five-day Winter Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly began at Dispur this morning on a stormy note. The Assembly witnessed noisy scene when the Social Affairs Minister Akon Bora rose to reply on a question relating to the issue of alleged anomalies in selection of around 20 thousand Anganwadi workers in the State. BJP member Prasanta Phukan raised the question alleging anomalies in Anganwadi workers’appointment.<br/>The opposition members belonging to Asom Gana Parishad, BJP, Asom United Democratic Front, CPI and CPI (M) rushed to the well of the House and started to raise their demand repeatedly to the Speaker. Nothing could be heard amidst the noisy situation when the ruling party members also started to altercate with the opposition members. As the Question Hour was over, the Opposition members could not get a proper ruling from the Chair in this regard.<br/><br/>The Opposition members also staged a walk-out when the speaker Tanka Bahadur Rai didn’t allow them to raise an adjournment motion on the issue of price rise cancelling all other proceedings of the House today. Later, in absence of the opposition members, four Government Bills, including the Asom Science and Technology Bill, 2009 were placed in the House by the concerned Ministers.<br/><br/>Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who is holding the finance portfolio, also presented supplementary Demand to the tune of 314 crore 40 lakh rupees for passing by the Assembly.<br/>
