Assam Assembly elections: 150 nominations filed

In Assam, around 150 nominations were filed on Wednesday for the first phase of Assembly elections scheduled to be held on 4th of the next month. Thursday is the last date of filing nominations for the first phase of elections.Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi submitted nomination papers at his home constituency-Titabor in Jorhat district.He is seeking to retain the Titabor constituency for the third consecutive terms.Besides Gogoi, state minister for Fishery and Irrigation Nur Jamal Sarkar at Biswhanath Chariali constituency in Sonitpur district, Handloom minister Pranab Gogoi at Sivsagar constituency,State BJP President Ranjit Dutta at Bihali constituency along with others also submitted nomination forms.In all 13 districts including three districts of Barak Valley and two hill districts of Karbi Anglong and North Cachar- are to be covered in the first phase of elections. A total of 85 lakh 3 thousand 117 voters (85, 03,117) are eligible to exercise their franchise in this phase of polls. The notification for the second phase of elections for the remaining 64 constituencies will be issued on Friday .The second phase of elections in 64 constituencies is slated to be held on 11th of next month.
