Assam Assembly bye-elections reach its peak

In Assam, electioneering for bye-elections to the Dhekiajuli and South Salmara Assembly segments reached its peak. The campaigning for both the seats will end by Thursday afternoon. Polling in 333 voting centers of both the constituencies will take place on Saturday next. AIR Guwahati Correspondent reports that political parties have stepped up their last minute efforts to woo over two lakh ninety four thousand voters in the two constituencies in favour of their nominees. In Dhekiajuli constituency, the main electoral battle is on cards between the ruling Congress nominee Mr. Bhimananda Tanti and the opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP)-BJP common candidate Mr. Siba Charan Sahu.<br/><br/>Simultaneously in minority-dominated South Salmara constituency, the ruling Congress nominee, former Minister Mr. Wazed Ali Choudhury is facing a stiff contest from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) candidate Mr. Abdur Rahman Ajmal.<br/><br/>Bye-election for both the seats necessitated following election of Mr. Josheph Toppo of the Asom Gana Parishad and Mr.Badruddin Ajmal of the All India United Democratic Front to the Parliament from the Tezpur and Dhubri Lok Sabha constituencies, respectively.
