In Assam, the stage is all set to conduct tomorrow's second and final phase of elections in 64 Assembly segments in a free, fair and peaceful manner. Polling will be held in 12,589 voting centres spread over 14 districts from 7.00 in the morning to 3.00 in the afternoon. In tomorrow's polling, the political fortune of 496 candidates, including 47 women will be decided by a total of 96 lakh 77 thousand 113 strong electorate. The Chief Electoral Officer of the State Mr. Hemanta Narzary told our Guwahati Correspondent that poll parties in almost all the voting centres are reaching their allocated destinations by this evening. Over sixty thousand jawans of Central paramilitary forces have been deployed in the vulnerable and sensitive spots for a trouble-free poll. More than 70 per cent polling centres falling under the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) has been tagged as vulnerable, hyper-sensitive or sensitive. Patrolling has been intensified in those areas to instil confidence among the electorates. A strict vigil is also being maintained along the borders with Bhutan and Bangladesh to check infiltration of militants to the State. AIR Correspondent reports that the State Election authority has appointed around three thousand micro observers besides installation of video cameras in over two thousand five hundred polling centres to monitor the entire poll process. Mobile SMS services have been introduced to get on-the-spot situation reports from poll officials. The Election Commission has approved 22 alternate documents for identification of voters in the State in absence of photo identity cards in the polling centres. Voter slips are also being distributed in every house-holds to check any political interference among the electorates.
