In Assam, 568 Karbi Anglong underground outfit-United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) militants, including 22 women cadres, laid down arms in Karbi Anglong district today. Five Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT) militants also laid down their arms at the function at Diphu stadium.
AIR Correspondent reports, the militants, led by its self-styled chairman Longsoder Senar, formally laid down arms to the Assam Police and Army officers. The militants deposited huge quantity of arms and ammunition, including 85 AK rifles, 177 sophisticated weapons and 18,000 rounds of ammunition, 322 magazines, 18 nine mm. pistols and 38 point 32 rifles at the mass surrender ceremony. The UPDS has also declared disbanding itself as an underground outfit and announced joining the mainstream of the society.
