Former Pakistani military Chief Aslam Baig has warned that the country's nuclear assets could be the next target of the militants. In an exclusive interview to Iranian channel Press TV, Baig said, if the militants could attack the most secured military headquarters in Rawalpindi and the police training centers in Lahore, then definitely their next target would be the nuclear enrichment programme at Kahota, Islamabad. Baig added that the political and military leadership of Pakistan will have to stop these terrorists who are apparently heading towards the country's nuclear assets.

Pakistani jets and artillery pounded Taliban bases for the second day on Sunday killing 60 militants in the lawless Waziristan region. Ground forces also continued their push into the Taliban strongholds and captured two key towns from them despite stiff resistance. Five soldiers were also killed and 11 more injured in clashes that erupted on Saturday after thousands of troops began advancing from three directions towards areas inhabited by the Mehsud tribe, considered the main base of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan led by Hakimullah Mehsud.

Officials said, security forces have taken control of Spinkay Raghzai and Ghazai areas in South Waziristan following fierce fighting on Sunday, even as militants offered "stiff resistance" at Shahwangi and Khesora areas.
