Asian Tennis Federation has sought a greater say for non-European nations without the Grand Slam tournaments, in running the affairs of world tennis. The President of the ATF, Anil Khanna told media in Dubai that there is an urgent need to give voting rights to more nations to ensure the growth of tennis all over the world. Currently, the eight powerful countries have the same voting strength with 87 votes as 150 nations. He said that the Asian Tennis Federation is also opposed to the move to increase voting strength of four Grand Slam members from 12 to 16. Mr. Khanna said that it is more important to empower nations without voting rights since they must feel that they are a party to the decision making process. The ATF Chief also made a strong case for a World Championship by the International Tennis Federation which has the potential to generate a profit of 50 million US dollars. He said the money will belong to 210 nations and ITF can play a major role in increasing the outreach of tennis all over the world, making it even more popular, competitive and get more junior and professional players. The International Tennis Federation, ITF will vote on the amendments in its policy and new initiatives at its Annual General Meeting in Dubai today.
