Hong Kong shares were 2.9 per cent lower in early trade today, with the benchmark Hang Seng Index down 589 points at 19,751. Japanese share prices opened lower today, with the benchmark Nikkei-225 index falling 190 points, or 1.84 per cent, to 10,164 in the first minute of trading.
