Asian Games: Indian men's hockey team strikes gold, qualifies for 2016 Rio Olympics

India won the prestigious hockey gold of Asian Games today by defeating defending champion Pakistan, in process also booking 2016 Rio Olympic berth.

The women's 4x400m relay team also picked up yellow metal as Indian contingent added three more medals today.

That was the moment that ended India's 16 year long thirst for the Asian Games Gold and what better way it can come in as we defeated Pakistan the defending champion and also made direct entry to 2016 Rio Olympics.

It was an epic final clash after 32 years. Green Shirts pulled of on quick as whistle blew and in fourth minute Mohammad Rizwan found the Indian net.

Keeping the nerves calm Sardar Singh led Indian side paced to attack. After a penalty miss by India it appeared it could all be over for India. But before dying minutes at half time, India equalised the game from Kothajit Singh's goal.

The match was then locked at one goal each till the end of the regulated time. And finally it went down to wire in the penalty shootout.

India kept their head high and took 4-2 lead to beat Pakistan.Within minutes after winning the Hockey Gold India clinched the 4×400 metres women's relay Gold, by creating a new Asian games record.

The team of Priyanka Pawar, Tintu Lukka, Mandeep Kaur and Poovamma Raju with a time of 3 minute 28.68 seconds sprinted their way to win the Asian Games gold.

A bronze also came from Inderjeet Singh as he bagged bronze in shot put. India bagged two more bronze from boxing. Now on the penultimate day India will look to add two more Gold medal from Kabbadi as Men's and Women's team face Iranian counter parts in final on Friday.

With 9 Gold, 9 Silver and 37 Bronze, India is at 9th position on the medals table.
