<span style="color: #222222;">The United Nations has warned that Asia Pacific Region is on track to meet only one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the target year of 2030. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Deputy Executive Secretary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) Kaveh Zahedi told PTI in New Delhi that the only one of SDGs also known as Global Goals that is going to be met is on Education. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Though the region is lagging in all other parameters, Mr. Zahedi said, India is making important contributions in the area of clean energy. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">By 2022, India plans to produce 175 GW of renewable energy. The rate of expansion in these sector in India is the highest in the world.  India is partnering with France and other countries to launch the International Solar Alliance. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Besides the area of clean energy, India is also investing heavily in the areas of education and health care. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">In the last few years, India has  also made significant progress in the area of poverty eradication. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Mr. Zahedi said that the global success in achieving the 2030 development agenda is highly reliant on India's performance. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Urging the nations to speedup development efforts, he said there is need for investing heavily in education, health-care, reducing vulnerability of various populations  to financial crises and extreme weather events. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Since,  India is the fastest growing economy in the world, the world body's faith on India in meeting the global goals is surely not misplaced. </span>
