The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced in Dhaka today that the Asia Cup would go ahead in Bangladesh from the 25th of next month despite security concerns. Bangladesh has been rocked by some of the deadliest political violence in its history in recent weeks, prompting speculation that the Asia Cup and the World Twenty20, also to be hosted by Bangladesh from March 16 to April 6, may be shifted elsewhere. As per the schedule unveiled today,defending champions Pakistan will take on Sri Lanka in the opening match of the 50 over Asia Cup tournament on February 25. India play their first match on February 26 when they take on the hosts.
