Pakistan have defeated Hosts Bangladesh in a nail biting final match to win the Asia Cup for the second time in the tournament's history. Winning the toss at the Sher-E-Bangla stadium at Mirpur in Dhaka on Thursday, Bangladesh Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim chose to bowl first against Pakistan. The Bangladesh bowlers succeeded in restricting Pakistan to 236 runs in fifty overs for the loss of nine wickets. Chasing a target of 237 runs, Bangladesh were on track for a historic win till the last over when they needed nine runs for victory with three wickets in hand, but Pakistan's Aiza Cheema delivered the over of his life time to deny the hosts a historic win by two runs. Pakistan's Shahid Afridi was declared Player of the match while Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hassan was awarded as the Player of the series.It was Bangladesh's biggest day in their cricketing history and the entire nation led by President Zillur Rehman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina cheered and prayed for the team's victory in their first Asia Cup Final against Pakistan. The Bangladesh bowlers delivered early blows to leave Pakistan struggling at 55 for three but a good fifth wicket partnership between Umar Akmal and, Hammad Azam followed by a quickfire 32 runs by Shahid Afridi and a gutsy unbeaten knock of 46 runs by Sarfaraz Ahmed helped them reach 236 for the loss of nine wickets. Tamim Iqbal's sixty of sixty eight balls and Shakib Al Hassan's 68 off 72 balls kept Bangladesh on track to the target of 237 runs. The hosts finally needed nine runs for victory in the last over with three wickets in hand. The equation was reduced to four to win from two balls after Pakistan conceded three runs with an overthrow. But Aizaz Cheema derailed Bangladesh's 'plans picking up the wicket of Abdur Razzaq in the penultimate ball of the innings. Bangladesh needed four runs for victory from the last ball Shahadat Hossain could only manage a single to give Pakistan their second Asia Cup Title with a two run victory. The Bangladesh players and fans broke into tears as their team's dream run ended in the Asia Cup, but many feel that it also marks a new beginning for the Tigers who defeated World Champions India and Runner up Sri Lanka before going down fighting till the last ball against Pakistan.
