Asia Cup match: Sri Lanka beat UAE by 14 run

In Asia Cup Cricket, Sri Lanka just edged past UAE in their opening round-robin match at Mirpur last night with a 14-run victory. Put in to bat, the reigning champions were restricted to 129 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs after UAE skipper Amjad Javed bagged 3 wickets for just 25 runs. Sri Lankan wicket-keeper opener Dinesh Chandimal top scored with 50. In reply, UAE could only score 115 for 9 courtesy a spell of 4 for 26 by Lasith Malinga, the newly-appointed Lankan captain. He was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant performance. UAE will meet hosts Bangladesh today at the same venue at 7 PM Indian Time.India will take on Pakistan tomorrow. The continental championship is being played in a Twenty-20 format for the first time, from the usual ODI, keeping in mind the T-20 World Cup which will be hosted by India next month. Top two teams at the end of the round-robin stage will meet in the Final slated for the 6th of next month.
