The ICC has decided to accord One-Day International status to India and Pakistan's group league matches against Hong Kong in the upcoming Asia Cup. A senior BCCI official told the news agency PTI today that the BCCI along with Asian Cricket Council (ACC) had placed a request with the ICC board in this regard. The Asia Cup starts in Dubai from Saturday.
Hong Kong have been clubbed with India and Pakistan in group A while B group comprises Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Bangladesh is scheduled to play Sri Lanka on the opening day.
India will take on Hongkong on the 18th and face Pakistan the next day. The last group stage match will be played on the 20th with Bangladesh fighting it out with Afghanistan.
After the group matches, six Super Four matches will be played from amongst the A and B groups. The final is slated for the 28th of this month. All the matches will be played at 5 p.m. Indian Standard Time all days.
