Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by five wickets to enter the final of Asia Cup Cricket for the first time in the tournament's history. Batting first at the Sher-E-Bangla stadium at Mirpur in Dhaka yesterday, Sri lanka were bowled out by Bangladesh for 232 runs in 49.5 overs. With rain interrupting the match, the target of 233 runs in fifty overs was reduced to 212 in 40 overs by Duckworth and Lewis method. Chasing the revised target, Bangladesh lost three wickets for just forty runs. But two half century knocks by Opener Tamim Iqbal and all rounder Shakib Al Hassan combined with a fifty run partnership for the fifth wicket between Nasir Hossain and Mahmudallah helped the hosts reach the target of 212 runs with 17 balls to spare. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was present in the stadium during the match and cheered for the team along with the thousands of the country's cricket fans. The victory has sparked off celebrations in Bangladesh with the country reaching the final's of the Asia cup for the first time with two consecutive victories against India and Sri Lanka. Both India and Bangladesh and Pakistan have won two of their league matches, but Pakistan qualified for the final by topping the points table by gaining a bonus point while Bangladesh has entered the final having defeated India in the league match.Sri Lanka lost all the three league matches to finish at the bottom of the group. The final match between Bangladesh and Pakistan will now be played at the same venue on Thursday.
