Asaam to hold session on CAG report

The Assam Govermnent has decided to convene a special session of the State Legislative Assembly in January next year for a debate on the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG)’s special report on the multi-crore rupee North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council scam. This was stated by the State Government spokesman and Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma in Guwahati. The CAG in its latest published interim report detected large-scale financial irregularities in several key departments in the North Cachar Hills district. The entire Opposition, including the BJP and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has, meanwhile, demanded resignation of the Congress-led Tarun Gogoi Government in the State in view of the CAG report. Dr. Sharma said the State Government would form Rs 100 crore corpus fund to take measures to minimise the downstream effects of the 2000 megawatt-capacity Subansiri hydel project mega dams in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh as recommended by the expert group.
