Arunachal: Re-polling to be held tomorrow in 34 polling stations under 2 LS constituencies & 11 Assembly seats

In Arunachal Pradesh, re-polling will be held tomorrow in 34 polling stations in five districts, under both the Lok Sabha constituencies, Arunachal West and Arunachal East, and 11 Assembly seats. The voting will be held from 6AM to 2PM. The State Chief Electoral Officer, Chandra Bhushan Kumar told AIR that all necessary measures, including preventive arrests and deputation of CRPF personnel at each booth, have been taken to ensure smooth re-polling.

The highest number of booths for re-poll, 12, are in Kurung Kumey district wherein disturbances, pertaining to damaging of EVMs, malfunctioning of EVMs and intra-party clashes were reported during the April 9th simultaneous voting for both the LS seats and 49 assembly constituencies. The Number of booths in other districts to go to fresh voting on Saturday are : Upper Subansiri-09, East Kameng-08, West Siang-04 and one booth in East Siang district.

Asstt. IG-Police, Tushar Taba has been deputed to and camping in Kurung Kumey districts wherein voting was marred in the largest number of booths on April 9th by stray fracas among supporters of political parties and vehicles damaged, Arunachal IGP (Law and Order), Satyendra Garg told AIR this evening. All security-parties have been provided with wireless connectivity, he added.

Meanwhile, the body of a missing polling official, Matthew Dabi, who went missing at 1430 hrs on the day of polling on April 9, was found yesterday near Sine village under 35-Pangin Assembly constituency. His body has been located in a steep gorge inside a deep forest. Considering the inaccessibility of the location, the recovery process will take some time, East Siang S P, Devender Arya, has informed.

The 11 Assembly constituencies concerned with the booths ordered for re-polling are : Bameng, Chayangtajo and Seppa West in East Kameng district; Palin, Tali and Koloriang in Kurung Kumey; Daporijo, Raga and Dumporijo in Upper Subansiri; Along West in West Siang; and Pangin in East Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh.

Simultaneous voting for 49 Assembly seats was held with both the LS seats in the State. Arunachal has 60-seat Assembly. 11 Assembly candidates-all from the ruling Congress including Chief Minister Nabam Tuki-stand elected unopposed after the date of withdrawal.
