Arunachal Pradesh celebrated its 25th Statehood Day with great pomp and show at the Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar today. Addressing the statehood silver jubilee celebrations, Union Defence Minister A K Antony reiterated the importance of the Himalayan state to the country. He said the centre is aware of the challenges faced by the people living in the areas bordering China, Bhutan and Myanmar and said, every step will be taken to develop the border areas. The Union Minister who arrived in Itanagar by helicopter this morning, further gave assurance of raising the 2nd Arunachal Scouts Battalion and completion of Advanced Landing Grounds at the earliest. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki said, the state has made strides in several sectors like hydro power, education, health, agriculture and tourism.Arunachal Governor Gen JJ Singh thanked the Centre and the Defence Minister for supporting the initiatives of the state Government. He said though certain achievements have been made by the state, a lot needs to be done and urged the Centre to give more attention to it. The massive gathering at IG Park was given a special treat by the fly past and maneuver stunts of Sukhoi 30s and army helicopters. The Army Dare Devil team performed their motor cycle stunts amidst the clapping of the spectators. Cultural troupes representing different major communities also gave a vivid description of Arunachal Pradesh with colourful songs and dances. The Defence minister also inaugurated a five day Arunachal Festival in connection with the silver jubilee celebration. Ministers of the Nabam Tuki government, MLAS, top level army and Defence officials were among those who attended the function.
