Arunachal elections: Over 45% polling till 1 PM in simultaneous voting for 2 LS seats & 49 assembly seats

In Arunachal Pradesh, more than 45 per cent votes were cast, till 1-00 PM in simultaneous voting for the two LS seats and 49 assembly seats, currently underway in the State. Polling has been brisk to heavy and largely peaceful in Arunachal Pradesh since 7 AM today, The State Chief Electoral Officer, Chandra Bhushan Kumar told AIR that Polling process has been suspended in a few booths in Kurung Kumey district due to stray incidents of damaging of EVMs.

In Tawang district bordering China, a total of 70 % polling was over by 3-30 PM . No report of any untoward incident has been received, the Distt Election cum Returning Officer Abhishek Deb told AIR. In Kurung Kumey district, Polling in Sarli was suspended as miscreants burnt down poll materials and EVMs, last evening, according to Chuku Takar, ADC, Kurung Kumey. The ADC said snatching of EVMs was also reported in Tali Assembly constituency today. However, voting continued thereafter when the EVMs were replaced. The reported snatching of EVMs was denied by the CEO office in Itanagar.

In West Kameng district, the polling has been peaceful with 64 per cent voting recorded by 3-00PM today, informed A K Singh, DC-cum-DRO.

In disputed Charaipung area, a territory claimed both by Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, the Arunachal administration had reportedly set up two polling booths, which were taken over by Assam administration. Tension prevailed in the areas as security was intensified to ensure no breach of law and order. Charaipung borders Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh.
