Arunachal CM to face floor test today

The newly sworn-in Kalikho Pul government will face a test of its strength in Arunachal Pradesh assembly today. Ahead of today's Confidence vote, Chief Minister Pul received a shot in the arm as eight MLAs, earlier believed to be loyalists of previous Nabam Tuki government, extended their support to him yesterday.<br/><br/>Governor Jyoti Prashad Rajkhowa has summoned the seventh session of the new assembly from today till February 27. Dissident Congress leader Pul was sworn-in as the eighth chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh on Friday after over three months of political instability.<br/><br/>With the joining of the 8 MLAs, the strength of the Pul camp has now risen to 41 including 28 Congress members, 11 BJP MLAs and 2 Independents in the assembly. The house has an effective strength of 58, though the original strength was 60. A new Speaker will also be elected as the seat is lying vacant since December 16. The President's rule was imposed in the state on January 26. It was lifted on February 19. <br/><br/>Earlier, the last session of previous Assembly was held in a makeshift venue at Naharlagun in December last year. In the session, Speaker Nabam Rebia was impeached and Nabam Tuki government was voted out by 33 MLAs in the 60 Member House.
