With Jaswant Singh set to contest from Barmer as an Independent after being denied a party ticket, BJP leader Arun Jaitley has said that leaders should sometimes accept no after being showered with privileges. Jaitley wrote on his website that it has become a test of his loyalty and discipline. He said the politician or leader denied a ticket must accept the decision with a smile.
Jaitley, contesting from Amritsar seat, said in election season, many political persons desirous of being candidates succeed in getting a party nomination, but many more get left out. He said, a political party is built upon the support of millions of political workers who have sacrificed their time and energy without ever aspiring to hold elected office.
Jaswant Singh is likely to file his nomination papers as an independent candidate from Barmer, Rajasthan today. He is scheduled to address a meeting of his supporters, after which he may file his nomination papers as an independent.
Singh, however, is not resigning from the BJP yet. He said, he would consult his colleagues before taking that step. He said, nobody in the BJP has approached him ever since he set the 48-hour deadline for quitting the party.
The BJP has given the party ticket from Barmer to Col. Sonaram who recently joined the BJP after quitting the Congress.
Another senior BJP leader from Rajasthan and former Union Minister Subhash Maharia also announced contest the election as an independent candidate from the Sikar constituency. He is unhappy with BJPs decision of declaring Swami Sumedhanand as the party candidate.
