Arun Jaitley expresses concern over rising Non Performing Assets in banks

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has expressed concern over rising Non Performing Assets (NPAs) in banks.Speaking to media after the Central Board meeting of RBI in New Delhi, Mr Jaitley hoped that the decision to recapitalise banks would help to reduce bad loans. The Finance Minister said, in the meeting they discussed disinvestments, financial reforms and cleaning up of bad loans. He also explained to RBI board the rationale behind some parts of the general Budget. Mr Jaitley said the target of the government is to achieve the numbers mentioned in the budget.Speaking on the occasion, RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan lauded the reform measures announced in the budget. Mr. Rajan said markets and RBI have been comforted by government sticking to 3.5 percent fiscal deficit target for 2016-17. On bad loans, Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha said, RBI has done commendable job in defining different types of accounts.
