The much awaited Commonwealth Games will make a kick start in New Delhi from 3rd of October this year with the arrival of the Queen's Baton Relay into India via Wagha Border on Friday. The baton will travel across 28 states and 7 Union Territories, covering a distance of 20,000 kilometers before reaching the National Capital on 30th of September. The President of the Pakistan Olympic Association, Lt. Gen Syed Arif Hassan will handover the baton to his Indian counterpart Mr Suresh Kalmadi at a function on the India-Pakistan border. Briefing reporters in New Delhi today, Mr. Kalmadi said all preparations are in place for the smooth conduct of the Games. Lauding the efforts of Pakistan for India's successful bid for organising the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Mr. Kalmadi said New Delhi can never forget the support of Islamabad in this regard. Our Correspondent reports that the Baton for the Commonwealth Games was launched by Queen Elizabeth II from Buckingham Palace in London on 29th of October last year in the presence of President, Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil at a formal ceremony.
